Why? Well, here's a short list...
1. You already know what it's like to breakdown at 3 AM when all the world's asleep. Hell, you're used to missing sleep due to anxiety, sorrow, despair. And you know how to get past it.
2. All the hormones postpartum? They rock compared to Lupron, Follistim, etc etc. Oxytocin is a hell of a drug.
3. You're used to being an outlier, and having to do hard shit to accomplish your goals.
4. You're used to having little to no control over things. That helps when your baby is going bonkers for no particular reason.
5. You're a warrior and tough as nails. Even if you don't feel that way.
6. You are totally, totally ready for this. You've thought way more about what you want and need than most whoops parents.
7. Finally, while having a baby does not solve all your problems or guarantee your happiness, it certainly solves the problem that's been oppressing you for years/months/eons. Which makes all the challenges very easy to bear.

I love the "having to do hard shit to accomplish your goals" bit!
Well, I love it all.
Really, postpartum is easier than stims? Hard to believe.
Great post!
this is so, so true, Shinejil. In a very cruel, evil way we have been blessed to have the IF PhD that gives us the skills to get through those really hard early years (oh, yeah, baby, I said yearS, plural! hah!).
Slight exaggeration. Every month or three it gets a little better. Slowly. Imperceptibly. One day (around month 8?) you realize you can wash a plate and not break down sobbing from exhaustion.
Big hugs to you and load up on that oxytocin!! Any time you need to take the the edge off just insert boob in babe's mouth. Suck. Take that, Depression!
This was an awesome post!
Great point of view. Hope things are mostly going great.
I love this. :-) ...and I hope so.
Love it!
I like your list!
I have long thought that infertility prepared you for parenthood, in ways you'd never expect. Nice to know that instinct is accurate! I figure if you can deal with all the sh*t that IF deals you, you can take most anything!
