2009. Already, a much kinder year.
I don't know why, but I'm feeling happier than I have in a long time. I've started to tackle the weight I gained during Ectopalooza 'o8 and my personal tour of Belgium's finest beers by keeping a food diary and increasing my dose of daily movement. This seems to be having a positive impact on my mood--I know, you'd think I'd know that by now, that taking good care of myself=happy happy joy joy. Silly me. It seems until recently I thought happiness lay in pumpkin cheesecake and shiraz.
We're starting our search for a farm in earnest next month. Meanwhile, we're finishing up our ridiculously long-lasting renovation project, and with the end in sight, we can't help but feel hopeful. Now that I think about it, it'll be six months of house chaos by the time we're done. Yikes.
The thought of taking the big step of buying a place and starting a whole new venture seems to make any passing anxieties about my ladyparts flee like ghosts at dawn. The thought that we will get a large portion of what we want, despite all the set backs and hard times, is so supremely comforting that I want to generalize to anyone who will listen: Don't wait. Your dream? Do it now. Chase that joy.

chase the joy! love that! I am so glad things are looking up for you! It sounds like a fantastical year ahead of you :)
I hope 2009 brings you lots of good news, happiness and nothing but good things.
We reno'ed two summers ago and it was a stressful process! And even though it was mostly other people doing the work, it was still stressful as we have a 1000 sq ft 1940's cottage. We redid our kitchen, a bathroom, put in HVAC, rewired the electric and replaced most of the plumbing. But it's a much nicer house to live in now. It'll be worth the wait for you.
May you have a very productive, happy year!
I will send lots of good cool-old-farm vibes to you - how exciting to be starting something so incredible! I also completely agree that embarking on a new adventure is such a cure for the ailments of infertility. You feel as if you are being productive, taking charge and just doing something positive and active.
Now, if only I could figure out what my dream is to follow it...
chase that joy, love that.
you mean happiness isn't in a bottle of shiraz? hmm...
Hi Shinejil, I do detect a kindred spirit here.
Congrats on being out of the '08 trenches. There's nothing like "giving new life" to an old building. Helping "birth" that baby will only serve to show you how great and strong you already are, "As is," in all areas of your life.
Enjoy your new adventure!
P.S. Thanks for putting me on your blog reading list--I'm honored.
Good luck with the search. I hope that you find the farm of your dreams!
Chase that joy indeed! I've been pondering this very thing myself lately and the universe seems to be confirming my instincts - go check out Luna's latest post for her lovely take. It feels so good to chase the joy in my own life, and just as good to hear that the folks I adore are chasing and finding, as well. Smooches and hugs for a blissful, adventurous 2009.
Happiness doesn't lie in pumpkin cheesecake and Shiraz?!?! I'll take that on advisement but I can't say I'm completely convinced.
you go, girl!!!
I'm glad 2009 is starting out better. Reno projects... sigh. Fun, but such hard work!
And I already feel much happier being back home and able to work out whenever I please. It really has made a huge difference in my mood.
Good luck with the farm search. That is a frequent fantasy of mine, to move a little further out of the city and get some serious acreage. And someday, when we have the money, we just might do that.
