Though I still feel some lingering sorrow and misgivings--I mean, if you can lose one, you can lose two, right?--my heart feels better today. I realize that I have to be strong for this little living child, and not dwell overmuch on what I can't do or don't have.
In fact, I started to reimagine my life, thinking about being able to carry one child on my back while hiking the hills near our home, of walking without a lot of logistical planning around our little town, of the freedom and closeness I'll be able to have with Bruiser, that might have taken a lot longer to achieve with two babies of the exact same age. It will make our farm dream, which we understood we'd have to delay with twins, into something a year off, not years off.
I always dreamed (literally saw in dreams, not thought wistfully about) of a single child, a large, vibrant little boy who looked eerily like my guy as a child (and this was before I even knew we would hook up and way before I knew what he looked like as a lad). Maybe Bruiser is this child. If so, he will be more than enough.
On a more practical note, I get one more u/s with my RE and Nurse Sweetie next Monday, and then he's passing me on to my old doc. I'm not wild about her practice, though she's great, and not quite sure what to do. But I did discover that our local hospital is super hippy (Labor like you want! Room in with your baby! Bring your favorite aromatherapy and music! Dim the lights!), so I feel better about my options.
Could this all work out in the end? I'm so ready for an anticlimax.

So sorry about your little dude. You have great focus to be able to appreciate what you *do* have, though.
(here from LFCA)
I'm glad you are feeling a little better about it. I'm sure it's a strange mix of emotions. I loved your dream about your future child and am hoping with all my might that Bruiser is the one!
Your dreams and visions of your life bode well for the best anticlimax ever, I reckon.
Glad you're feeling a bit better. I can only imagine how complicated the feelings are.
Darling, I can SO envision you doing all sorts of crunchy granola things with your baby. This kid is going to look great helping you pick green beans or something.
(I am picturing this like the Manic Organic)
Just stopping-in via L&F to let you know that you and the little guy are in my thoughts. I'm so sorry that you had to experience such a tangle of emotions already with this pregnancy...loss is never easy...no matter what. Wishing you all the best.
It's funny you mention that about a mini-DH... My husband and I were friends for years before we started dating. Sometime around 1999 I had a dream about him ... except he was a child. I don't know how I knew it was him, since he was a child, but dreams are just like that. Anyway, I asked him if he would show me some pictures of himself as a child. And he looked just like he did in my dream. And ever since we began TTC I've had this concious fantasy about having a mini-DH...
Sorry to hear about Runty.
Although it's true that if you can lose one you can lose two (or if you have only one you can lose that one), it was clear from the first U/S that Bruiser was growing better than Runty. I'd guess that most docs looking at that U/S would have bet on Bruiser surviving/thriving and Runty not.
I have high hopes that your Bruiser will turn into that vibrant little boy (or girl).
I'm glad you're feeling better today. Yay for super hippy hospitals :)
what to say...
When finally prego I so expected disaster to come crashing down upon me at any/every moment. It's a residual effect of IF -- b/cuz you were unable to conceive "normally" must mean you or your body is not meant to be having a baby and so you're just pushing your luck...
I tried to mess with fate's mind and pretend I didn't care, made no future baby plans and never talked (out loud) to the bun in the oven.
You'll find your way to not tempt fate (make peace with?) and bond with Bruiser.
It gets easier when you get to the 5th month and easier still after that. Just to get to a viable month if the baby is born early is enough.
One day at a time. Close your eyes and think how amazing it is to be where you are NOW.
glad you are feeling better. i am sending loads of prayers that bruiser stays put for the full 40 weeks!
Glad to read that you're feeling better today.
Go Bruiser!
Here from L&F...
Glad to hear that you are feeling better, and are increasingly able to focus on the future.
I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm glad you are able to look forward and enjoy the little one you have inside.
It can work out, and sometimes, it even does.
It will all work out...sending you oxoxoxoxo.
Strong vision = strong baby. Keep it up w/ the positive attitude, sister!
Congrats on the crunchy hospital too!
I'm sorry for the loss of the little one, but so happy that Bruiser is holding on strong!
I'm sure Bruiser will be your dream come true!
