"We're nothing... and nothing will help us
But we can beat them, just for one day..."
The hardest thing for me, besides keeping my fear and anxiety in check, has been the absolute lack of recognition of all I went through to get here and how that experience challenges my ability to be happy about it.
Since no one else will do it, I want to send this message to all of you, courtesy of the charming Mr. Bowie. No matter where your road takes you, I, as someone who's seen that road, know that you are heroes.

Awww. Have I ever told you that you're my hero?
Oh wait. Wrong song.
At this point, it may have to be enough that you know what you went through and to honor yourself for making it so far. And, I think your opinion should count a lot more than anyone else's.
:)
OMG, I'm in love with David Bowie. Yes, for what we go through, heros indeed.
As are you. Thanks for that. :)
Oh, this made me all weepy, Shinejil. We really are all heroes.
I share your feeling about wanting recognition - I think it's why I've been compulsively saying to everyone - including complete strangers - who comments on my pregnancy that it took us a long time to get here. Some people get it, and some don't, but at least I feel I'm not hiding it or trying to pretend that it was normal and easy.
And know that even though you might not be getting the recognition you want, I am honouring you and your journey right now and every time I think of you.
Right back at you.
I will respond with some hero lyrics from a vastly inferior artist, Mariah Carey.
So when you feel like hope is gone
Look inside you and be strong
And you'll finally see the truth
That a hero lies in you
i SO agree w/ the recognition thing. I was spatting w/ the husby yesterday over him not wanting to go to the doctor for something and I FROKE OUT! i couldn't deal w/ the idea that i put my body through so much, constantly think/stress/worry/obsess and that no one realizes how much i'm going through.
thanks for this post--plus, bowie is the best!
babyincredible
Nice! Always good to hear Bowie (: I so agree. I feel the need to remember and honor what I have been through and so should you! Other people who don't go through it are generally clued out. So you will always know the strength it took to get here and you should feel proud. Thank you for being a continued support to me.
And you, my friend, are also a hero.
One of my co-workers who is not in our office found out I was pregnant today and couldn't figure out why I hadn't sent an email to absolutely everyone announcing my news - especially when she found out I was almost 20 weeks. She just couldn't understand it. That is part of why I haven't told anyone who doesn't need to know.
i heart bowie!!!
i don't always feel heroic, but now that you point it out, perhaps i am a little bit of one. i did just spend the weekend with seven other IF heroes. thank god for them, they helped pull me out of some bad stuff and helped me get pumped for my surgery tomorrow.
btw, how did you post the y.out.ube clip? when you get the chance could you e-mail me at jellybelly_75 at yahoo dot com? thanks in advance!
