We interupt this regularly scheduled crisis...

...to talk to you about two wonderful things that are probably not of much interest, but hey. This is my blog, I'm temporarily pregnant, and you're going to have to indulge me.

The first wonderful thing is my man. Yesterday, after he heard the wacky news, he did some research online, and did it well. He came home understanding with perfect clarity what our situation might mean. He held me while I wept out of irrational, gut-grabbing fear of losing my tube to an ectopic. Then, he took me downtown, bought some of the world's best ice cream.

Upon returning, we watched the Muppet Movie and cuddled. We sang along to the songs. He did the dishes. He's the best, I tell you!

Other wonderful thing: our garden. This year's been a bit rough, but we've managed to grow some excellent cukes, sweet and succulent and prolific. We've also finally mastered the art of growing eggplants from seed, a tricky venture due to their so-so germination and the lusty flea beetles that attack young plants. We've got the loveliest violet globes hanging so gracefully from tall, flourishing (only somewhat flea beetle-attacked) plants. The 8-ft tall red sunflowers are drawing some of my favorite birds, goldfinches, while the trumpet vine, butterfly bush, and fuschia are visited by a small army of hummingbirds.

Despite a hard time, our Brandywines have done pretty well (they got a case of fusarium wilt but still managed to produce a decent crop). We had some okay beets and yummy salad turnips (Hakurai: a cinch to grow and so delicious sliced thin!). Our peas sucked due to the cold wet spring, but all in all, it's been pretty good. We even got our first crop of cherries, a good amount of strawberries, and mysteriously, several volunteer melons, one of which we can't identify but it smells like honey and sunlight.

In short, I love being able to wander out, grab some herbs, and come up with something tasty from our produce. I'm really looking forward to doing this on a larger scale.

Wow, your garden sounds luscious! My kingdom for outside space.

I'm sending out hope to the universe that your pregnancy will be much more than temporary ... and may it not involve tubes of any kind! Ice cream cones, yes. Tubes, no.

You are a spectacular mother with nature! I envy your very green thumb. We just visited a very cool farm a few days ago where they are sell organic everything (chicken, llamas, sheep (for meat & milk), garlic, honey...) and not so far away is an herb/flower "pick-your-own" farm run by a French guy. The possibilities are endless.

Also, BTW, I have tagged lovely you at geeksinrome.wordpress.

Glad u got the Muppets in :)

I'm so glad that, even in the midst of all of this, you are able to hold onto all that is good and positive in your life.

Both your man and your garden sound amazing!

Sending you much love and positive, healing thoughts from all the way across the Pond.

I'll be thinking of you tomorrow! What a rollercoaster this is. Now it's my turn to wish you luck for your date with the wand tomorrow. Sending positive, loving thoughts your way.

BTW, I would suggest you continue ice cream therapy as needed.

How about some pictures of your garden? I love red sunflowers.

Oh sweetie, your garden sounds wonderful! I do love nature, but I can barely keep a house plant alive. I guess it's just not in me.

Having been through an ectopic pregnancy myself recently, I seriously hope that your tubes are OK and the situation will resolve itself the best way possible.

Lots of Hugs

I thought of you when I read this in this morning's paper. It's a pretty good story about a university prof who does homemade, brickoven-baked bread on the side.

even has a video.
